Fruitful and very appreciated!

CEJA together with SMA CR organised a successful seminar in Brno, the Czech Republic. This seminar gathered more than 100 young farmers from all over Europe, and especially from the new Member States, who travelled many hours by car and bus to join!

The seminar was opened by the President of CEJA, Giacomo Ballari and by the President of SMA CR, Pavel Moulis. Among speakers and active attendance were representative of European Commission Michael Pielke (DG Agri) and Wladyslaw Piskorz (DG Regio).

The result of the seminar would not have been excellent without the point of view of Gérald Peltre, President of European Countryside Movement, Vaclav Zamecnik from the Czech Birdlife organisation and Eduard Hofer, from the Federal Office for Agriculture in Switzerland. All those presentations were nicely accompanied by the vivid discussion with young farmers who also presented their own examples and experiences regarding the rural development and agriculture diversification. The topic has also been lively discussed through 3 different working groups.

Moreover, since the seminar took place in the Czech Republic, the team of organisers used the opportunity to establish one panel reserved for Czech experts. Tomas Doucha, director of Research Institute of Agricultural Economics and Michal Pospisil, the advisor of Minister of Agriculture explained the situation at a national scale. The open perspective to this panel has been added by an agrarian analyst Petr Havel. And last but not least was a Slovak presentation by Balint Pem about the obstacles and challenges of setting up young farmers organisation nowadays.

The conference part of the seminar ended with the successful adoption of a declaration untitled “Rural Development 2007-2013: Fresh opportunities for Young Farmers”: [EN], [FR], [IT], [ES] (DE to come soon).

The cherry on a cake was a presentation of delicious Czech cuisine in a stylish villa of Mitrovsky with a mobile casino accompanied by a wine testing. And once again CEJA 50th anniversary has been celebrated!

At the end of the seminar, participants appreciated an unusual visit of the famous Agricultural fair Techagro, Vetex Animal and Regina de Silva, which started on the 6th April 2008 in Brno.
